Biliardo is one of a whole range of virtual simulators of a popular pub pastime that is, just as much, a top-level sport: billiards. The Italian author Marco Chiesi focused on the varieties of billiards that are most popular in his native country, and squeezed a whole range of games and options, as well as a quality physics engine, into a fairly small installation file. So what does Biliardo offer? After going through the training mode, players can try, for example, 5 Pins, Goriziana, Bowls, Carom and 3 Balls, in two settings: a slightly sterile sports one and a livelier pub one. Even though the current version is a mere 800 kilobytes, it has a very good model of how the balls move, you can play all kinds of spin shots and tricks, and a nice bonus of the user interface is the ability to repeat a shot, have it played back and save the replay, or look at detailed statistics of the game in progress. Visually, too, Biliardo looks fairly decent, although even on the freeware scene there are definitely more attractive billiards games around. Nevertheless, for fans of this sport and of the five Italian variants mentioned, it is certainly an excellent choice.
